Services

Reflexology

Reflexology works specific areas on the hands, feet, and ears to restore balance in corresponding areas and organs of the body

hand massage

It is most commonly applied to the feet and the client remains clothed. Reflexology is not massage, which rubs the skin and muscles. Reflexology affects areas below the skin with compression by the practitioner's thumb, finger or knuckle, stimulating the nervous system.

This relieves pain experienced by the imbalance, improves circulation and hormonal function, and improves the function of all organs worked i.e. pituitary/pineal and thyroid glands, heart and lungs, adrenal glands, liver, pancreas, bladder, gall bladder, and large intestine, as well as inducing deep relaxation. More frequent or greater elimination (#1 and/or #2) is common after Reflexology.

Deep Tissue

As deep pressure is applied, take deep breaths and feel your body melt with the pressure, if it tenses up instead, ask your therapist to ease up the pressure.

Deep Tissue is any technique applied deep enough to affect the muscles and connective tissue below the superficial ones for specific work or full body. The therapist may apply deep finger or elbow pressure either going with or against the direction of tissue fibers to break up scar tissue. Deep, slow glides with the forearm on various areas of the body may also be used.

The myth exists that deeper is better, but the general rule of thumb is that the therapist should not go beyond 70% of your pain thresh hold. As deep pressure is applied, take deep breaths and feel your body melt with the pressure, if it tenses up instead, ask your therapist to ease up the pressure.

Sport Massage

Sport Massage can be any combination of techniques with either a maintenance or event focus. Regular maintenance sessions help the athlete reach optimal performance through injury-free training.

A Pre-event session is used to enhance circulation and reduce muscular and mental tension as part of the athlete's warm-up.

A Post-event session reduces lactic acid build-up and restores muscle tone and range of motion that can be inhibited after strenuous exercise. Stretches may be incorporated in the session and/or your therapist may recommend scheduling an A.I.S protocol for your next visit.

Active Isolated Stretching

Active Isolated Stretching(A.I.S.) is a set of precise stretch protocols developed by kinesiotherapist, Aaron Mattes. He has rehabilitated thousands of professional athletes using the principles of contracting the opposite muscle to stretch the opposite, but only for 2 seconds and then repeated 5-10 times. This requires active movement on the part of the client, but is assisted by the therapist.

leg stretch

A.I.S is proven to restore range of motion, increase circulation and oxygen to tissues, and lengthen superficial/deep connective tissue to relieve pain/tightness, prevent injury, rehabilitate muscles, and improve performance. Clients should wear a t-shirt and loose shorts or pants and will learn how to stretch themselves. The group of muscles stretched and length of the session will depend on the protocol your therapist recommends for you.

Pre-conception Massage

Preconception Massage focuses on cleansing, balancing and opening the women's body physically and energetically while relaxing her mind so she can be ready to receive and conceive.

One Preconception massage or even regular sessions do not guarantee conception, but are excellent adjunct therapy to IVF or anyone wanting to conceive, whether for a first time mother or for mothers who’ve previously given birth vaginally or by Caesarean. The sessions are ideally done between menstruation and ovulation for 60, 75, and 90 minutes (longer for additional full body work).

Preconception massages include: Cranial and sacral holds, Reflexology, Acupressure along the spine, abdominal massage, friction massage to pelvis and spine (can be done through sheet), and pelvic rocking. For the massage we use shea butter blended with Castor oil. A heat pack will be applied to the pelvis over the sheet. This Castor Oil pack, soaked through the skin, improves the body’s ability to assimilate nutrients, eliminates toxins, and stimulates circulation. This is only for Pre-conception and Post-Partum massage, castor oil is contraindicated during pregnancy.

Pre-natal Massage

pregnant woman massage

This is a treatment for areas of discomfort for Mommy and Baby

PRE-NATAL MASSAGE is a blend of Swedish strokes and a few gentle stretches for areas of discomfort for Mommy, along with circular abdominal strokes for her growing abdomen and Baby (can be omitted). We use The Body Cushion so Mommy can lay comfortably face down even at 9 months! Can be done at any time during pregnancy, including first trimester. Ask your Dr. for written permission if he/she has deemed your pregnancy high risk, simply avoiding certain areas or massage after a certain time may be fine.

Deeper work on the back and neck, glutes and sacrum is allowed, especially if the client has received regular bodywork and does not have a "high-risk" pregnancy. Certain acupressure points and reproductive reflex areas are avoided. The gentle rocking motion of Trager® bodywork is also a wonderful way to open and loosen tightness around the hips, glutes, low back and legs .

Post-partum Massage

POST-PARTUM MASSAGE is ideally done 3-10 days after a vaginal birth, 14 days or more after a Cesarean birth with your doctor‘s written permission. It focuses on relaxing the neck, back and shoulders, toning the uterus and bringing the hips back together.

For belly/sacrum massage we use shea butter blended with Castor oil . A heat pack will be applied to the pelvis and/or sacrum over the sheet. This Castor Oil pack, soaked through the skin, improves the body’s ability to assimilate nutrients, eliminates toxins, and stimulates circulation. Applied topically, castor oil is also beneficial for lactation. This is only for Pre-conception and Post-Partum massage, castor oil is contraindicated during pregnancy.

Trager® and Mentastics®

trager logo used by permission

In Trager®, practitioner and client co-create a freer state of being. Trager® is gentle and soft, but affects deep tissues; it’s like a different way of working deep. The Trager Approach® works three dimensionally through the body and by reaching the unconscious mind where negative patterns are held.

The practictioner will engage the client in waves of rocking and passive joint movement that overlap negative patterns such as: stuck tissue, lack of sensation or movement, and pain; with positive feelings of freer, softer movement. No lubricant is used and the session can be done clothed. The client's feedback is very important and will be asked for during the session. Ginger will pause periodically to let you rest in the sensation that opens for you in that time. You will learn to recall the feeling of that moment and learn it more fully in your self-care movement of Mentastics. This pause also lets Ginger play with Mentastics herself, to keep her body and her mindful approach soft and centered, and convey that in all dimensions to you.

neck motion exercise

The Mentastics® exercises give you simple, practical movements to help recall the positive feelings from your session in your everyday life. They are a crucial part of The Trager® Approach, teaching customized movement re-education to stuck muscles and stuck individuals. Mentastics® empower clients to recall incredible relaxation anywhere at any time. How do I let go of tension in my body? What do I feel, what would I like to feel? How can my muscles, bones, and skin feel lighter and move with greater ease? What could feel softer? This are some of the questions we use in exploring our sensations.

Please wear loose comfortable clothing (not spandex) and willingness to explore movement in all its forms from meditative to bouncy, slow to silly. If you want to think outside the box, this class is for you! Bring an attitude of curiosity and fun!

You can learn Mentastics® in private Trager® sessions with a practitioner, or they can be learned in a group. Mentastics® can be practiced every day and are gentle enough to be performed by people of all ages and at different levels of ability. Class size is limited to 5 people and are ongoing with a different theme explored in each class. Current Classes are Wednesday evenings.

The Trager Approach® can help ease or manage many conditions, including: back and neck pain, limited range of motion, muscle spasms, headaches, poor posture, depression, physical or emotional trauma, multiple sclerosis, post-polio syndrome, Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It can be safely done during pregnancy and is a wonderful way to open and loosen tightness around the hips, glutes, low back and legs and find the feeling of balance when that state is changing.

Should I tip my therapist?

Tipping is always the decision of our clients, based on the quality of our service to you. All of our therapists work on straight commission, so your tips are appreciated. For your convenience, tips can also be accepted in checks and on credit cards.

Do I have to be completely undressed for the massage?

No, many clients leave their underwear on. You will be under a sheet and your therapist has been trained to tuck and drape the sheet around the area he/she is working to insure your modesty at all times. Therapies such as Trager® and Reflexology can be done completely clothed.

Do you use cream or oil?

We offer both. Creams may work better for hairy clients, but also feel colder. For the most part use 100% pure, natural oil, or gel (a blend of oils in a water base) or melted shea butter. We find that these products warm up with body heat. We intentionally use natural products that are good for your skin and will leave it feeling soft, moisturized, but not greasy. If you do feel greasy, please let us know as using less product can prevent this.

Testimonials

My sentiments exactly. My husband and I were looking for a way to re-create a massage experience we had on our honeymoon. Body, Mind, & Sole did the trick. I was dreaming of Greece the ENTIRE time!
Annie Lindsay, Ohio

All the Yelp reviews are true. Body, Mind, and Sole is AMAZING! Julie is great at what she does! Thanks!
A.T., Alexandria

Ginger's massage makes me feel at peace with myself and the world. It takes away stress and worries and provides a deep sense of relaxation, yet when it is over I feel invigorated and ready to tackle all my problems. It is a wonderful experience for the body as well as the mind.
Brigette Z. May, College Park

The feeling is as heavenly as anticipated. This is the best hour I've spent in months.
Debra Wiley, Alexandria

A great stress reducer and tension reliever! Ginger's remarkable massages lighten the day and relax the muscles; but it's the resulting mental rejuvenation that is the greatest benefit. I go from being tense to falling asleep - part of it being the peaceful environment that she creates. It is a periodic experience that I always look forward to.
Don Gay, Arlington

Massage therapy made a substantial improvement in our team's performance. For me personally, Massage maintains my ability to function.
Edward Brown, Alexandria

After the [Trager®] session, I felt a sensation of refreshed relaxation, similar to what I often get from swimming. Only this time when I walked away, I felt taller, straighter, and more centered.
G.G.D., Arlington

Massage was recommended to me 20 years ago by a chiropractor as therapy for a sport injury. The therapist later worked on kinks caused by tension and showed me how to relax muscle groups and stretch among other things. I continue massage because I fancy it improves circulation and overall well-being.
Harvey West, Vienna

Trager® was very effective relieving the pain and did so over a longer period than traditional methods... With Trager® I am much more active, and after a table session where I do learn pain reducing techniques, I can usually keep the pain at bay until the following session
Luc Murphy, Alexandria

I feel more relaxed, with less tension and stiffness in my shoulders, neck, and back. Massage provides a time for me to rest and refresh, focusing on my well-being, which is important since I am a counselor who spends the majority of my time caring for others.
Melissa Coffey, Alexandria

We enjoy the holistic body and mind experience that comes with Ginger's skillful approach.
Mike and Jeanina DiVittorio, Alexandria

A massage to reduce stress, and promote relaxation is always good for anyone's health, but ... after 55, like most people, I started having problems with my hips. Ginger's massage, with her gentle stretching, has helped me to remain hip pain free. Thanks Ginger!
Pat Gay, Arlington

Massage helps keep me going & stay injury-free!
Ram Gnadesikin, Arlington

What an amazing, relaxing experience. It was as if I were floating above, watching these wonderful hands at work. I rose from the table incredibly refreshed.
Shane Lindsay, Ohio

I had a 90 minute prenatal massage with Megan on Sunday, and I just wanted to say that it was absolutely, hands-down, the best massage I've ever had. I'm 37 weeks pregnant and so far I've had four consecutive days of zero body aches and pains. It's unbelievable. Thanks so much!
Sheela, Virginia

Reflexology makes me feel invigorated and have more energy in my whole body. Massage relieves my aches and pains.
